Volunteer Event at Maria Hernandez Park

Join the Newtown Creek Alliance (NCA), DEP, Councilmember Jennifer Gutiérrez's Office, Clean-up Bushwick Initiative, and the BK SWAB for a volunteer day & Rain Garden Demo!

This June, NCA is hosting a series of events centered around the English Kills tributary of Newtown Creek aimed to engage the East Williamsburg and Bushwick communities with this inaccessible waterway and ways that the upland communities can help improve conditions in both the Creek and on local streets.

This event will include:

Introduction to the importance of green infrastructure from Community Coordinators from DEP (why it is good for water quality in Newtown Creek)
Hands-on maintenance of curbside rain gardens around Maria Hernandez Park with NYC DEP, Council Member Jennifer Guiterrez, Nicole from Clean-up Bushwick Initiative, and members of the Brooklyn Solid Waste Advisory Board (BK SWAB)
Cleanup of sidewalk and street trash around Maria Hernandez Park
This event is run in partnership with Cleanup Bushwick Initiative, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, Brooklyn Solid Waste Advisory Board , and the office of Councilmember Jennifer Gutiérrez.

We will provide gloves, tools, safety vests, and guidance on how to safely complete our tasks for the day. Before the event, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form (Adult form here and Minor form here).
