Description

NYCHA’s Wagner Houses and the surrounding East Harlem community are gathering for a fun afternoon of activities to raise awareness about recycling, organics separation and waste reduction. Take part in a ground litter clean-up, make arts and crafts, compete in a trash-oriented scavenger hunt and bingo games, and more!

Activities are designed for all ages. All are welcome. Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult. Sewing experts will be on hand to add life to your clothes. Bring a worn, torn, ripped or broken item of clothing to the mending circle and we can try to help you repair it.

Tools will be provided for the litter clean-up and the mending circle. You can bring your own, but there's no need. For the trash-nerds who want to dive in more, we'll be conducting a recycling waste audit as well, which means we'll be weighing and sorting materials collected in the recycling bins to determine contamination rates and other metrics. These data can be used to determine how effective education and outreach efforts like this one are.
