GreenThumb community gardens are developed, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces.

Through the help of community board 4, what use to be a old outdoor gym has become a large community garden now called Sparrows Nest. We invite all community members to join us and become involved with something so vital in our lives... nature!. Sparrow's Nest is in the process of reinventing the space and looking for new garden members. This is a great opportunity to join a growing garden, and start your gardening dreams!

No experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome, just show up!

Sparrow’s Nest is working toward being open 20 hours each week for all to enjoy. It’s a place to connect with nature, grow together, and strengthen our neighborhood roots.

This event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.

Volunteer: Brooklyn Army Terminal Cleanup Sunset Park

I’ve been involved with the Human Impact Institute, an organization dedicated to addressing climate change, and I’m excited to share that I’ve been nominated to amplify a community project. As part of this effort, I’m organizing a community litter clean-up to help keep our neighborhood beautiful and sustainable.

Let’s work together to make Brooklyn litter-free and spread the word!  Bring your own grabbers and gloves.

Please join me and others in this community effort to care for our shared spaces. We’ll meet in front of Building A. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to participate! Also bring your own grabber. I will have bags and instructions when you arrive.  I will provide energy bars and water.

Looking forward to seeing some of you there.

Warmly, Avani

Community Clean-Up Walkthrough-Outreach.
The neighborhood wetlands-street cleanup will include a community walkthrough to outreach to property owners, community members-residents, and our supportive volunteer visitors.  The plan is for one to three (1-3) hours of community stewardship on the weekends (Friday-Saturday-Sunday), on an as needed basis.  The plan is to recruit-engage additional volunteers through community canvassing, targeting the property owners who live near and community members who frequent higher profile areas, including local businesses.

This is a community call-to-action for environmental impact awareness. Inquire about being a community 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) steward for your block-community-neighborhood.
